Spain smashed Russia yesterday in the Euro Cup Semifinals. Now on to the finals against Germany . . . a title Spain has not won since the 20's. May we all unite with a prayer in our hearts!

The Basque "Lauburu" In Our Floor

Here in Aspen, we live in a house with old barnwood floors from back east. The other day Becky noticed this design on one of the floorboards (look very closely):
This design is no other than the Basque symbol of Northern Spain, known as the Lauburu. "Lau" and "Buru" mean "four heads" or "four summits" in Euskera (the Basque language), representing the four regions of the Basque Country. The symbol is plastered all over the Basque country.
So we figure that it is a pretty wild coincidence that this so-called "reclaimed wood from back east" happens to have the Basque Lauburu in it. It makes us feel more at home.
